[:en]We are pleased to announce that Whitney Amuchastegui will join Su Casa Columbus as its new Executive Director. Whitney brings a unique perspective and skill set to the job based on her multicultural upbringing and experiences, and a strong sense of empathy and community service. She marries this with a solid background in education.

The mission of Su Casa Columbus, a United Way of Bartholomew County agency, is to act as a cross cultural bridge, connecting Hispanic and non-Hispanic communities in Bartholomew County working to increase Latino self-sufficiency, economic independence and community building through advocacy, educational attainment and a greater access to community resources. Su Casa also wants bring people together in ways that benefit both Latinos and non-Latinos and to help drive an understanding that a thriving Latino population here is positive for all of Bartholomew County’s residents – economically, culturally, and spiritually.

Su Casa is committed to providing both direct service where there are gaps in the human services network and to referring its clients to a host of capable partners – thereby avoiding duplication and stewarding precious non-profit resources.

Increasingly, its focus is on improving the workplace skills and education of Latinos to help provide a strong workforce and local economy. Su Casa also provides a wide array of basic life skills support for local Latinos, helping them to integrate into our community.

Having spent the last three years working at BCSC in the English Language Learning Department, Whitney joins Su Casa replacing Sylvia Babcock who has led the organization the past three years. Whitney participated in the establishment of the Cultural Learning Center, promoting the integration of international families into the community, supporting Latino young talent, and encouraging multi-cultural expression in the schools.

Whitney comes from Canada by way of Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina where she spent eight years. It is also where she met her husband and began her family. She is fluent in Spanish and English.
Her previous roles have been in the graphic design field, working for Mayor Michael Bloomberg and the Economic Development Corporation in New York City and the Turismo Sustentable arm of the Tourism Secretary in Chile. Whitney holds a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design.

She has two children aged seven and four. Her husband, Patricio, is a native Argentinian and Project Management Manager working for Cummins, Inc.

We would be remiss if we did not thank Sylvia for her yeoman work and leadership the past three years, helping to steer Su Casa back to becoming a capable full time human services operation certified by the United Way, building strong partnerships with other key agencies and organizations and a bringing an enhanced sense of caring to our client base and the Latino population. Sylvia, who has moved to Huntsville, Alabama, will continue to support Whitney in her new job through a transitional role.
