We believe every family deserves to feel safe, valued, supported, and connected regardless of socio-economic or immigration status, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or beliefs.
At Su Casa, we meet people where they are — addressing immediate needs while helping families build long-term self-sufficiency, stability, and opportunity.
Our work is rooted in empathy, advocacy, servant leadership, and collaboration. We believe in providing services with no gaps and no overlaps, ensuring families receive holistic and culturally relevant support through trusted relationships and strong community partnerships.
Founded in 1999, Su Casa was born from a growing need — to be a bridge for Latino families in Columbus, Indiana who faced language barriers and limited access to services. What started as a grassroots effort has grown into the region’s most trusted Latino-focused nonprofit, supporting families through education, health, advocacy, economic empowerment, and the unwavering belief that every family deserves to belong.
Founded in Columbus, Indiana Su Casa was born out of a community's response to a real need. As Latino immigrant families arrived in Columbus facing language barriers and limited access to services, Juana Watson, Warren Ward, and leaders from First Presbyterian Church came together to build something rooted in trust, advocacy, and care.
Expanding Community Support Su Casa deepened its reach — growing educational programs, family support services, and advocacy efforts, while building stronger ties with schools, healthcare providers, and local nonprofits.
Building Long-Term Impact In 2015 we received matching grants from the Cummins Foundation and the United Way of Bartholomew County to launch a stronger service focused on education and self-sufficiency. This has grown into an after school and summer program, and a community approach to information distribution provided by client volunteers.
Expanding Our Reach In 2020, Su Casa expanded into Jackson County as a response to the growing health disparities faced by Latinos due to COVID-19. WIth support from Jackson County United Way and Healthy Jackson County, Su Casa prioritized peer-to-peer education and health care access.
Regional Growth Su Casa expands into Shelby County as a response to the gap in family support services dedicated to a growing Latino community. With support from the Blue River Community Foundation, Su Casa offers one-on-one family support services and referrals.
Looking Toward the Future Still rooted in the same values that started it all — and more committed than ever to building a thriving, valued Latino community that benefits everyone.
