Designers: Jim Blackstock, Jonathan Hill, and Anthony Reiss
In Mosaic Accretion, the designers transformed sustainable materials into a dynamic art installation in the Commons Building in Downtown Columbus, Indiana.
Utilizing materials such as plywood, chipboard, and tracing paper, they created a collection of over 100 distinct triangle and trapezoid extrusions, each of which congregates into a dynamic structural landscape. Shifting and pulling, the structure allows diverse wood modules to hold each other in tension, even with the smallest connections – every part adding to the strength and integrity of the whole. Translucent panels infused with subtle patterns of light and color create a play of light and shadow, inviting viewers to contemplate their place in a cohesive community of both difference and commonality.
